The eight-year-old girl who was raped while visiting her elder sister’s house in Magura has been placed on life support.
She was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Friday (March 7).
The third-grade girl went to visit her elder sister’s home in Nijnanduali Mathpara village, Magura, a few days ago. On Thursday morning, family members found her unconscious and bleeding near the house and took her to Magura 250-bed District Hospital.
The on-duty doctor referred her to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. As her condition worsened, she was later transferred to DMCH.
The child was initially brought in as a case of breathing difficulty. However, after being transferred to the medicine department, signs of sexual assault and an attempt to murder were found, Magura District Hospital’s emergency department’s doctor Subash Ranjan Halder told the media.
The victim’s family claims that her elder sister’s father-in-law, Hitu Sheikh, is involved in the assault. Following this allegation, police and military personnel conducted a joint operation and arrested Hitu.
“A couple of months ago, my elder niece got married. I heard that her father-in-law had been harassing her whenever he got the chance, which is why she had left her in-laws’ house and returned to her parent’s home. Later, she was persuaded and sent back to her in-laws’ house,” the victim’s paternal uncle said.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station, Md Ayub Ali said that the police and military personnel have already visited the crime scene and the hospital to investigate the matter.
