BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said their expectation is that the upcoming national elections will be held very soon.
He also hopes that a consensus on reforms will be formed soon after discussing with all political parties.
He told reporters after a meeting of political parties with the National Consensus Commission on reforms at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Saturday.
Mirza Fakhrul said they had earlier said very clearly that the national elections must be held first, then the local government elections.
The BNP Secretary General said that the Chief Advisor has met with the political parties in the first meeting regarding the National Consensus Commission. In this meeting, he spoke about the need for reforms.
He called on the parties to discuss the reform reports submitted by the commissions.
“The parties will talk to the commissions about this and try to reach a consensus. That is the main thing. In the initial discussion today, different political parties said different things,” said Fakhrul.
BNP leader said, “Saturday was just an introduction. Different parties gave their own opinions.”
