Begum Khaleda Zia passes away

Former Bangladesh prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia has passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

She died just after 6am today (Dec 30), the BNP wrote on its official Facebook handle.

Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23. The three-time prime minister, 80, had been suffering from health complications, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney ailments, lung conditions, and eye problems.

Several members of her family have gathered at the hospital. They include her son and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman, Khaleda Zia’s elder sister Selina Islam, younger brother Shamim Iskander, Tarique Rahman’s daughter Zaima Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko’s daughter Zahia Rahman, Dr Zahid told reporters at around 2:15am.
