Bangladesh will get duty-free access to UK until 2029: Cooke

The UK will continue to provide Bangladesh duty-free access to its markets until 2029, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has said.

“After this period, 92% Bangladeshi goods, including garments, will enjoy this facility,” she told a programme in Dhaka this evening (December 7).

The UK is Bangladesh’s third-largest export destination. The major export items include ready-made garments, frozen food, IT engineering, leather, and jute goods. Nearly 90% of the goods are knitwear and woven garments.

In the year ending Q2 2025, Bangladesh exported £3.5 billion to the UK, importing £751 million and resulting in a £2.8 billion trade surplus, according to UK government data.
