DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz removed

The government has removed Mohammad Ejaz from his position as Administrator of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

A notification issued on Monday morning by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, signed by Mahbuba Airin, Joint Secretary, relieved him of his duties and assigned the role to Suraiya Akhter Jahan, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division.

According to the notification from the ministry’s City Corporation-1 branch, Suraiya Akhter Jahan has been appointed as Administrator until further notice, in line with sub-section (1) of Section 25A of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

The notification states that the new Administrator will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation.

She will carry out this role as an additional responsibility alongside her current position.

As per the rules, she will receive only a responsibility allowance and no other financial or ancillary benefits.

Mohammad Ejaz, Chairman of the River and Delta Research Center, was appointed DNCC Administrator on February 12 of the previous year.

On February 1 this year, a Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on him following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
